Reservations can be made on our website using the Get a Quote facility.


13.1.2 : Booking by telephone

Call our reservations team on 0808 284 4444. Lines are open 7am to 10pm, seven-days-a-week.

Alternatively, use our Get a Quote facility.


13.2 : What information do I need to provide?

You will need to provide the following information when making a booking:

  • the dates and times of travel
  • the Budget rental location(s) for collection and return
  • the car group required
  • your Budget Customer Number (BCN) or Budget Customer Discount (BCD) number if you have one


We will then check for availability and provide a car rental quote.

From the quote, you can choose whether or not to confirm the booking. If you decide to confirm, you will be asked to provide your personal details.


13.3 : What if I have a Budget Corporate Discount (BCD) number?

You will need to quote your Budget Customer Discount (BCD) number when making a booking.

When booking online, you will need to enter the BCD number in the "Budget Customer Discount (BCD) number" field on Step 1 of the booking process.

Please note that you do not need to type in the letters "BCD" - just type the reference number itself.


13.4 : What if I have a Budget Customer Number (BCN)?

You will need to quote your Budget Customer Number (BCN) when making your booking.

    When booking online, you will need to enter your BCN number in the "BCN / Rapid Rez number" field on Step 1 of the booking process.

     


13.5 : Can I book more than 1 car at a time?

Yes, although vehicles are subject to availability. Each booking will have a unique reservation number.


13.6 : Where is my nearest Budget location?

Details of Budget locations, including telephone numbers and opening hours, are available in our Location Search section. You can select your most convenient Budget location when you make your booking.

Once your booking is confirmed, we will arrange for the chosen vehicle to be available at the selected location at the time and date chosen.

If you need to change the rental location, you will need to modify your booking either in Online Bookings on this website, or by calling our reservations team on 0808 284 4444.

Please make sure you have your reservation number handy.


13.8 : Is additional equipment available?

There are many options and accessories available to help make your trip more safe and enjoyable. These options and accessories vary from location to location. Depending on the car group, there may be some accessories included as standard. Items such as child seats can be requested for a small fee at the time of reservation.

Budget makes every effort to honour your requests for additional accessories but unfortunately we are unable to guarantee them on the reservation as some items may be subject to availability.


13.9 : How much does rental cost?

We charge in periods of 24 hours, so if you take a car for 26 hours for instance, it would be charged as 2 days. We do allow a grace time of 59 minutes before we charge for an additional day. The actual cost of the rental will depend on the group of car, when you rent, for how long and where.


13.10 : Will I receive confirmation of my booking?

If you make an Online Booking we will send you a reservation confirmation by email. You should print this and keep it for your records. When you collect your car you'll receive a Rental Agreement which shows your booking details.

Budget offers a wide range of vehicles, with a choice of sizes and styles to suit your requirements.


13.7.2 : Can I choose the car model?

When you make your reservation, you will be prompted to choose a vehicle group. This group will normally cover a number of car models. In the UK our car/van groups are booked via engine size.


13.7.3 : Can I choose the colour of the car?

We cannot guarantee you will receive a certain make, model or colour of car. This is based on availability.

Upon arrival, you may advise the counter representative of your preference, and if available, we will be happy to accomodate your preference.

2.1 : How old do I need to be to rent?

Budget requires drivers in the UK to be 25 years of age or older. However there are some locations where the minimum age is 23 with an applicable surcharge.

International age requirements vary by country. Please call our reservations team on 0808 284 4444 for further details.


2.2 : Can another person drive the rental vehicle?

Additional drivers are allowed at most locations, although they must meet the minimum age requirements, present a valid driver's licence and credit card, and have a clean driving record. There may be a surcharge for an additional driver. The cost of a daily surcharge varies from location to location.


2.3 : Can I take the car abroad?

If you are booking online, you will need to call the Budget location to confirm if you are able to take the car abroad.


2.4 : What documents will I need to provide?

All drivers of the vehicle will need to be present and provide a valid driver's license. If UK drivers are renting outside of the UK we recommend visiting the DVLA's 'Share My Driving Licence' portal and bringing along a print out of your licence, which shows current restrictions and penalties.

You must have held a full clean licence for at least one year. An International Driver's Permit alone is not sufficient for rental - this can only be used in conjunction with a standard driving licence.

You will also need a credit card in your own name. Further identification, such as a passport, may also be required.

Please note that any discounts or vouchers must be presented upon arrival.


2.5 : Are there mileage limits?

The majority of rental rates offer free unlimited mileage. However, some Budget rates will give you a limit of free mileage and charge extra for additional mileage made over that limit.

You will be advised at the time of booking whether unlimited mileage is included, or you can ask at the Budget desk when you collect your car.


2.6 : Will there be petrol in the car?

Most rental cars are provided with a full tank of fuel.

2.7 : Why does Budget charge a Premium Location Fee?

We charge a Premium Location Fee to cover the extra costs incurred by Avis Budget UK to be located at premium locations such as airports, train stations and city centres.

It is a 16 per cent premium that is charged at prime locations, such as those locations where we must pay the property/land owner (an Airport or Shopping Centre owner) a percentage of the earnings, which can cover the rental and ancillaries, in addition to any standard market rent for the property.

It is not a tax and does not generate significant net income for us.

The Premium Location Fee is included in the price quoted to customers and is shown as a separate item on the customer’s rental agreement.


3 : Cancelling a booking

Can I cancel my booking? Can I get a refund?
Yes, but you must cancel before your rental is due to start.

If you have pre-paid online
You can cancel your booking online or by calling our Reservations Centre before your rental is due to start.

Cancellation fees apply. You can view the current cancellation charges in our Terms and Conditions.

It is important that you cancel before your rental is due to start. If you do not cancel and do not collect your car on the day your rental is due to start your booking will be cancelled with no refund.

If you are due to pay on arrival
A No-Show Fee of 40 Euros/40 GBP will apply if you do not collect your car. You can avoid this fee by cancelling your booking before the pick-up time.

9 : Length of rental

The maximum length of time you can rent a vehicle for is 28 days. Should you wish to extend this rental period, a new rental agreement must be created. Please contact the location for further details.

4.1 : Does insurance cost extra?

Your rental quote will include some basic insurance. You can purchase additional cover if required.

Just ask at the rental desk when you collect your car. Some general information on insurance is provided in the Rental Advice on this website.


4.2 : Am I covered for liability?

All Budget vehicles in the UK are automatically covered for Legal Liability, Third Party and Public Liability, as required by law. This is included in your rental price.


4.3 : Can I insure against vehicle damage?

Most rental prices include cover for vehicle damage - Collision Damage Waiver (CDW). If it is not already included in your rental price, then Collision Damage Waiver is available to purchase at the rental desk. You can confirm what is included in your rental price at time of booking or by checking with the Budget location.

If your rental does not cover you for Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), then you will be responsible for the cost of repair up to the replacement value of the car, regardless of whether you were at fault.

If you are covered for Collision Damage Waiver, then you will only need to pay the excess amount towards the cost of repair, again regardless of whether you were at fault.

You may have the option to reduce the excess amount by purchasing Excess Reduction. Please ask at the rental desk for further information.


4.4 : Can I purchase personal accident insurance?

You can purchase Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) when you collect your car. Should you have an accident, this will cover the driver and passenger(s) for accidental death, medical expenses and assistance and rescue. For details, please ask at the Budget desk.


4.5 : Can I purchase insurance for baggage and personal effects?

5.1 : What if I break down or need help outside office hours?

Budget provides free 24 hour Roadside Assistance in case of emergency, breakdown or accident involving your Budget rental car anywhere in the UK. Just call the freephone number 0800 246 811 for further assistance. If you are travelling outside the UK, please check with your rental location for breakdown assistance in your country of rental.


5.2 : What happens if the car gets damaged?

Please ensure you check over the car yourself when you first collect it. If you notice anything at all, please tell the rental agent who will record it on the Rental Agreement.

The rental agent will inspect the car when you return it. If any damage has been incurred during rental you will have to pay the cost of repair up to the replacement value of the car, unless you are covered for Collision Damage Waiver, in which case you will only have to pay an excess.

5.3 : Can I extend the rental period?

You can extend your reservation period at any time before the rental. However, this will affect the cost of your rental.

Use the Get a Quote facility to change or cancel your booking. Alternatively, telephone Budget Reservations on 0808 284 4444.

To extend your rental period once you have picked up your car, please contact the rental location to make the necessary arrangements.

6.1 : Where can I drop the car off?

The rental vehicle may be returned to the same location you are collecting it from, or to another Budget location - whichever is specified at time of booking.

A one-way fee may be incurred if the collection and return locations are different.


6.2 : Can I return the car outside office hours?

Opening times vary for each location. It is possible to drop the car off once the office has closed, as most locations have a Budget key drop-off facility on site, but please check with the Budget station direct beforehand.


6.3 : If I bring the car back early can I have a refund?

You will only have to pay for the time you take the car - charged in periods of 24 hours with a 29 minute grace period. For example over 24.5 hours counts as 2 days. Please inform the location if you decide to return your vehicle earlier than expected.

Please note that this does not apply for rentals that you have decided to pre-pay for. Should you decide to return your rental vehicle earlier than the agreed date, we are unable to refund the difference from your pre-pay voucher.


6.4 : What about payment?

You will need to pay for your rental using a major credit card in your name. Payment is taken at the end of rental along with any extra charges such as an additional driver or a child seat.

If you chose to prepay for your rental, payment is taken when the booking is made. You are still required to have a major credit card when you collect your vehicle as this will be necessary for a deposit or if you wish to take out further insurances at the location.


6.5 : Do I need to refuel before returning the car?

On returning the car, you have the following 3 options;

  • If you are not sure how far you will be driving, but plan to stop for petrol, don't pay Budget in advance for petrol and bring the car back full to avoid any refuelling service charge.
     
  • Pay in advance for the fuel and bring the car back empty. Budget will fill the car at, or sometimes below the current retail pump price. Regardless of how much fuels is left in the tank, credits will not be given for unused petrol.
     
  • If you won't be using a full tank and don't have time to stop for petrol, pay us only for the petrol you use, based on the renting location's per litre refuelling service charge. Budget customer service representatives can tell you what the renting location's refuelling service charge is when you pick up the car.

6.6 : I'm going to return my hire car later than agreed. Is this OK?

We understand you might get delayed, so we try to be flexible. If you’re running late or need to extend your car rental - do make sure you contact us as soon as possible. Should you return the vehicle late - without notifying us or extending your hire - you may be subject to a late return fee.

How is a late return fee applied?

  • If you overrun past your agreed return date and time, you will incur a late return fee
  • If you still haven't returned the vehicle 24 hours later, then another late return fee will be applied
  • A late return fee will continue to be added every 24 hour period thereafter, until you return the vehicle to the rental station

Please note, if you return your vehicle after the agreed date and time, you will pay an additional day’s rental charge - plus a late return fee for each day (or part of a day) that you are late.

How much is a late return fee?

Depending on the country of rental, the daily late return fee will be (inclusive of VAT):

  • £12
  • CHF16.20
  • 125 (DKR, NKR or SKR)
  • Between €10 and €12.30 (country dependant)
  • Or the equivalent amount in local currency

8.1 : What is Fastbreak?

Budget Fastbreak service is ideal for the frequent renter. When you join the programme you are required to fill in one master rental agreement which means you will not have to sign paperwork at the counter again.

You can specify which car group you want and your car will be waiting for you when you arrive. So, each time you rent, you just show your licence, collect your car keys and you are off.
